Getting Started
Call or email to schedule a 1 hour assessment.
Session 1
During this first session we will discuss goals and targets for our training.
We also take a recording of your eeg from your attention network which will be used to create an individual protocol for your ideal frequency for training.
We will focus on goal areas for improvement and track progress between sessions. Most clients will notice measurable gains within 5-8 sessions in one or more areas. (List of issues NF treats HERE.) As we continue sessions those areas already seeing gains will likely continue to improve. As progress begins to level out we usually will change protocols and address other goal areas still of interest.
We encourage 2 or more sessions weekly for better/faster results
Results can often be more noticeable when training is focused to a shorter time period, which is reflected in the neurofeedback studies. We re-evaluate goal progress every 10 sessions.
Long Lasting Results
Most clients will want to begin with a basic goal of doing 20 to 30 sessions. Some will make enough improvements that they decide to continue past 30 and do 40 sessions; however, some people gain so much that they decide to stick with it for closer to 60 sessions. We encourage all our clients to understand the basics of brain health and daily habits that will help reinforce the improved regulation long term.
Think of it as taking your brain to the gym for 1-2 months, and then having the gains you make (improved sleep, focus, mood) last for years.
Eventually clients may wish to return for some follow up sessions, usually after 1-5 years. Depending on the initial amount of training, it can take only a very few sessions to return to prior regulation. Progress and results are directly tied to both the number of sessions as well as consistent attendance.
Most people didn’t grow up with Brain Health as part of their education. Over recent history we’ve learned more about brain foods and other ways to improve our brain health, and everyone knows that physical activity is key to well balanced mental health.
It’s important to understand how applying science and technology can help make improvements we once considered impossible. The long lasting benefits can help:
- improve therapy outcomes
- improve medication independence
- greatly increase personal effectiveness in relationships and careers.
Neurofeedback allows the brain to become unstuck in under or over arousal. These improvements in self regulation show up as living a better life with improved relationships and awareness and compassion for one’s self.
Why does a psychotherapist recommend neurofeedback? Jay Gunkelman speaks to clinicians about this HERE.
